New Work Friday #73

New Work Feb 25, 2011 No Comments

“In her most recent photographic series Isobel Parker Philip turns her attention to the fold and the cut, transforming an action and event into a study of form. This study subtly obscures the distinction between movement and stasis. Catching paper mid-fold Isobel questions how still a photographic image really is. The paper she has photographed is supple. It is not dead but dynamic, almost phosphorescent in places, emitting its own light and pulsing to its own rhythm. These folds and incisions possess a dynamic intensity. They do not obscure or destroy form but transfigure it, revealing an unexpected vitality. The works will be featured in the exhibition Incision at The Paper Mill gallery, opening on the 22nd February 2011 and continuing until the 5th March. Meet the artists 26th February 3:00 pm.” – Isobel Parker Philip
