New Work Friday #99

New Work Dec 09, 2011 No Comments

“Is this show of new art work – Neurotic? Raw? Uncomfortably direct? Shimmering and layered? Yes!… Come and see for yourself! Jade Walsh continues to explore the uncomfortable and the humourous in themes of relationships and singledom through blending mixed media; drawing, painting, screen-printing, sewing and text.
Initially fuelled by the artist’s own experience and the people in her life, the works are personal sometimes sentimental musings on love, longing and the broken-hearted, however you will laugh rather than cry at the often dry and comic text interpersed. The show also features a new zine! Jade Walsh is an avid screen-printer and zine-maker and is currently setting up an online zine shop; tootzines.com. The works from ‘You Think Sew’ were inspired from travelling overseas alone and working at a screen-printing studio in New York in 2010. “I am fascinated by human states such as loneliness or singledom and the need for love and contact because I feel it intensely myself and I need to deal with it through art.” – Jade Walsh.

You Think Sew, until December 2011, Library Artspace. 100 Barkly St. North Fitzroy. VIC 3068 Open Wed-Sat 12-5pm http://thelibraryartspace.blogspot.com www.jadewalsh.com.au
