BRET EASTON ELLIS JOINS PROGRAM

Byron Bay Writers Festival – 6 – 8 August, 2010

Legendary American literary brat packer Bret Easton Ellis has confirmed that he will participate in the Byron Bay Writers Festival during his first visit to Australia. Author of cult classic American Psycho, Easton Ellis will discuss his new fiction, Imperial Bedrooms.

This is the only Australian Festival in which the LA based writer will appear and he will be found in both Marquee and individual events. Additional titles that have brought him critics’ plaudits and international acclaim include Less Than Zero, The Rules of Attraction, Glamorama and Lunar Park. His work has been translated into 27 languages.
Said Director Jeni Caffin “I completely lost the power of language when this iconic author was dangled before me. I’ve been a fan since the mid ‘80’s when I read Less Than Zero; learning that this new book is a sequel has me bouncing on my toes with desire to devour it. It was a big afternoon, with Kerry O’Brien confirming he’d Chair the major Fatima Bhutto conversation, an offer of a David Suzuki event in October and then Bret Easton Ellis! This is a coup for the Festival and I’m thrilled to know that in August, our Marquees will be offering the most diverse range of writers and thinkers conceivable.”
