At the State Library today, Sydney artist Fiona Lowry won the $100,000 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize for her revealing self-portrait, What I Assume You Shall Assume.

Lowry, 34, said the work was part of a series she had been working on, which draws on the colonial mythology of the Australian bush as strange and malevolent.
“This is the first time I have entered a portrait prize,” she told reporters in Sydney today…”
