Hetti Perkins for MCA Board

As if reading the minds of the Art Life’s editors while we were preparing the Power Trip list, the MCA has today announced the appointment of curator Hetti Perkins to their board.She’ll join such luminaries as Simon Mordant, Rosemary Laing, Lachlan Murdoch and a host of other business people presiding over the harbour side museum…

MCA APPOINTS NEW BOARD MEMBER

MCA Chairman Simon Mordant AM announces the appointment of Hetti Perkins to the Board of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA). Hetti Perkins is taking up the position vacated by Professor Larissa Lavarch, who has completed a second three-year term on the MCA Board. Simon Mordant said: ‘We are sad to say farewell to Larissa who has played a key role in the development of the new MCA. I am delighted that Hetti Perkins has accepted our invitation. She brings with her invaluable knowledge and experience across the Arts and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, as well as a shared passion for the role that the MCA plays in the community. Hetti will also become chair of the MCA’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group.

MCA Director Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE said: ‘I would like to join our Chairman in thanking Larisssa Lavarch and welcoming Hetti Perkins to the Board. She has more than twenty-five years’ experience supporting and raising awareness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in the arts, working closely with leading world art organisations and communities in remote parts of Australia.

ABOUT HETTI PERKINS

Hetti Perkins is a member of the Eastern Arrernte and Kalkadoon Aboriginal communities and currently resident curator at Bangarra Dance Theatre. Perkins was previously senior curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Hetti is chair of the Charlie Perkins Trust for Children and Students and a trustee of the Michael Riley Foundation. She is a board member of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory and deputy chair of Ninti One, a not-for-profit company that builds opportunities for people in remote Australia.
