Divinity, Death and Nature: European and Australian prints from the Flinders University Art Museum collection encompasses three overriding themes: religion and spirituality, war and death, and landscape. The alignment of these seemingly disparate ideas allows for exploration and insight into human nature and society of the past, and
its relation to today?s world.

The multi-dimensional and multi-national human impulse to create beauty and love, to be cherished by and have
faith in a God, and the contesting desire to inflict pain of varying kinds upon a fellow human, can be investigated by delving across six centuries of artists? work.
From Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) and Claude Lorrain (c1604/5-1682), to Francisco de Goya (1746-1828) and
Barbara Hanrahan (1939-1991), the artists represented in Divinity, Death and Nature, either comment on their
times, concentrate on historical events, recall ideals of the past, or project allusions of the future.

Artists featured in the exhibition include Eugène Delacroix, Rembrandt van Rijn, Pablo Picasso, Jan van de Velde, William Blake, JMW Turner, Marc Chagall, John Constable, Jacques Callot, Hendrik Goltzius, Käthe Kollwitz, Théophile Steinlen, Noel Counihan, Lionel Lindsay and Jacqueline Hick among others.

A catalogue with contributions by Nic Brown and Dianne Longley accompanies the exhibition.
