The 24 Hours Series examines the act of creating by restricting a creative act to a 24-hour period. The results of Harriet Body‘s 24-hour ‘creative acts’ survive in the mediums of painting and video. They exist as documentation of the movement of the creative body through time. The series consists of three separate pieces subtitled Paper – a video work in which a single sheet of paper was filmed over a 24 hour period, Dots – tiny sequential dots were painted in black watercolor over two large sheets of paper over another 24-hour period, and Egg – a series of 24 small egg-yolk paintings. One was painted every hour while the white of each egg was fried and eaten. Harriet Body is a time-based artist currently undergoing a Masters of Fine Arts at COFA. Her research endeavors to understand the value of the creative act to an individual, and consequentially to society as a whole, through a theoretical investigation and through gaining an understanding of the neurological processes, concept formation, and rewards systems within the brain. Harriet has been involved with and and exhibited in the Artist Run Initiative community since 2012 with exhibitions at MOP Projects, The Paper Mill, Serial Space, Branch3D, Kudos Gallery, Eastern Bloc, and Mils Gallery. Opening at Firstdraft Gallery on Wednesday 3 October and continuing until Saturday 20 October.” – Harriet Body.
