Following her recent solo exhibition, Wonder and Evanescence at Sundaram Tagore Gallery, New York, Beyond Richter reveals her most recent developments. Featuring a series of over 90 small relief painted panels, 2 large canvases and some works on paper, Green has introduced the play of repeated arc motifs into colourful, disembodied abstractions. Isolated forms are suspended within a resonating background, creating spatial tensions between line, shape and the different permutations of colour. This ongoing investigation of the resonance of different shapes, that comprise the vocabulary of Green’s paintings, was first established in a series of ink drawings from 1976. Green thinks of these works as key to all her subsequent painting where she aims for the essential idea of the depicted object rather than its painted description.
