From Andrew Frost…
Who mourns for the TV test pattern? Does anyone miss having their favourite music or cop show suddenly dropped in favour of cricket or golf going over its six-hour allocation? And what kind of masochist would even attempt to watch a movie on a commercial television station? Thus the final days of television are a gradual process of technological innovation and growing viewer choice – we’re no longer tied to TV programming schedules and the tyranny of LOP [least objectionable programing], free as we are now to enjoy gore, sex, swearing and zombies on cable, satellite, download and DVD.
At 9am on December 3 analogue television will cease transmission To celebrate and memorialise artists attempts to come to grips with the beast, Tele Visions at Performance Space, and on UHF channel 681.25 in Sydney and via the web on www.televisionsproject.org, presents the work of more than 60 artists for your viewing pleasure, from experimental shorts to endurance performances, live transmissions from the Tele Visions studio and assorted video art. Curated by Alex White and Emma Ramsay, Tele Visions is a chance to commune with like-minded viewers and mark the passing of old technology into new.
Until December 3
