“My practice is concerned with integrating incongruous elements – this pertains both to subject matter and the formal qualities of paint and it’s physical application to the surface. A cut and paste approach to subject matter is observed, images are appropriated and recontextualised from a vast array of pop cultural sources, the underlying narrative is left intentionally hazy if not slightly absurd and surreal. Thick, oozy, expressive, impasto paint sits next to the smooth flat painted surface and styles are intermingled. Through these paintings I seek to playfully explore the unique referential history of a range of pop cultural sources and painting methods, to capitalise on their aesthetic and nostalgic cues and finally to create a new breed of hybrids…” Jessica Geron
