Paul Handley, Déplacement (Smuggling Pod), 2017. Life-jackets, Steel, 200 cm diameter x 100 cm / Courtesy of the artist.
Paul Handley is a multi-disciplinary artist who lives and works in Melbourne. He explores and interrogates social issues that cross borders and even continents; but in doing this, he always is searching for a perspective that speaks to the viewer on a personal, individual level. In an age of mass data and geo-political population movements, Handley finds a way for us to consider the fragility of the individual within the mass of humanity.
Déplacement (Smuggling Pod) is currently showing at this years 57th Venice Biennale as part of Personal Structures. Handley’s installation can be viewed within Giardini Marinaressa, situated on Riva dei Sette Martiri between Giardini Biennale and Arsenale, Venice until 26 November 2017.
