The Gaming Effect

Art Life , Reviews Jul 20, 2012 No Comments

Justin Cooper’s The Gaming Effect takes the world of the electronic game and applies it to the real world. The results are startling. Working with pen, inks and paint at large scale on cedar panel, Cooper’s intense drawing-dreams mix the geometric interconnectivity of Tetris with the side-to-side-up-down adventures of Super Mario and the hallucinogenic around-and-around of Skylanders. Cooper attempts to reconcile the world of games with RL but finds that the gaming effect can even alter your normal vision. Warning: bashing your head into bricks will not produce coins, only stars.
