Chippendale New World Art Prize Embraces Art, Renewal and New Technologies

Embracing revitalisation, renewal and the new world of technologies, the Chippendale Creative Precinct is proud to announce the inaugural $100,000 Chippendale New World Art Prize to be delivered over ten years, that asks entrants to envisage the future of a new age.

Each year the prize will take on a new theme in accordance with the process of constructing a new world. The theme for 2013 is Revitalisation, which seeks to reflect the metropolis reignited into a bustling, populous, creative and invigorated scene.

Calling upon artists, creative agencies, and students as the new voices of change, the ground breaking prize asks entrants to be inspired by art’s capacity for urban renewal and to embrace the new world of art technologies within their entries. The Prize encourages entry in all mediums of art including new technologies. This includes, but is not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, 3D modeling, animation, digital imaging, film,video, interactive media, motion graphics, photography, light and sound.
Open to all forms of interpretation the art prize allows entrants to also consider how technological development is instrumental in revitalising the future of art and how it can revitalise our urban landscape.

The New World Art Prize winner will receive a $10,000 residency grant to further their art practice and foster excellence in their chosen field.

Bursting with possibilities, the prize has generously been donated by the philanthropist and Chairman of Fraser’s Property Australia, Dr. Stanley Quek.

The residency will be hosted by internationally recognised Red Gate Residency in Beijing, China for 3 months beginning July – September 2013. Provided with a personal self contained studio, the winner will have the unique opportunity to experience all that China offers while they live, work and participate with other international artists.

In addition to this the winner will receive an exclusive opportunity to exhibit in a solo exhibition at NG Art Gallery, Chippendale in 2014 delivering an exciting chance to showcase the works created during their residency at Red Gate.

The finalists’ works will be curated into an impressive exhibition spanning five Chippendale locations in April 2013 opening Tuesday 30 April, showcasing the array and interpretations of new arts technologies across NG Art Gallery, NG Art Pop Up Gallery & Annex, Central Park Display Pavilion, and other creative businesses within the Chippendale Creative Precinct.

Other notable works entered will have the opportunity to be exhibited at the 2013 Beams Arts Festival that celebrates Chippendale as a cultural arts precinct of Sydney and will share the same ‘revitalisation’ theme in 2013.

The Judges of the Chippendale New World Art Prize will be Director of the National Arts School, Professor Anita Taylor; Dean of Sydney College of the Arts, Professor Colin Rhodes; Head of Design at UTS, Dr. Lawrence Wallen, and Director and Curator of NG Art Gallery and Beams Festival Director, Nicky Ginsberg.
